Soldiers and other security forces can now instantly detect a variety of concealed weapons — hand guns, knives and explosives — at safe distances. The keys are advanced optics and software that allows operators to ascertain threats at a comfortable long range.
Developed for the military, border patrol and other law enforcement personnel, ACT-I was recently conceived by Thermal Matrix of Clearwater, Fla.
According to the manufacturer, it is easy to operate. Several minutes of training is all that is needed to produce competent operators, officials point out, adding, hidden weapons are automatically highlighted.
They also explain the device’s light weight and diminutive size makes it easy to move about and operate in any temperature and light level.
