Compact Weather Station for Drones
Edited by Robert H. Williams
A lightweight, portable weather station that is crafted for unmanned aerial vehicle ground controllers is being produced by Climatronics of Bohemia, N.Y. TACMET II, a self-contained system, offers weather information in real-time. It is also protected against electromagnetic interference, says a spokesman.
The mast-mounted stations contain an internal flux gate compass that aligns wind direction to North. They require low power and can be energized by AC and DC power sources.
So far, more than 50 of these units are in use by the U.S. military. Other organizations are in the process of acquiring the devices for their local weather data requirements.
