Water Machine Geared for Disaster Relief
By Robert H. Williams
Spectra Watermachines of San Rafael, Calif., has developed a device that can produce up to 3,500 gallons of drinking water a day from polluted or salt water. The Solar Cube, which is energized by solar or wind power, can also provide emergency refrigeration for medical supplies or power for an on-line laptop and emergency communications equipment.
The portable system is currently the only disaster relief product that meshes solar and wind sources, water delivery and pre-filtration and water treatment in a single unit, says a spokesman.
It currently is being used in remote areas of Asia and South America.
