French navy acquires commando boats

The French navy has ordered 20 9.5-meter commando craft from VT Halmatic of Portsmouth, United Kingdom. The high speed boats will be used by marine commandos in maritime assault, fire support, insertion and command platform roles.

Configured for high speed attacks on target vessels, the commando boats will be dispatched from a range of French warships and military transport aircraft.

The first of these next generation craft are scheduled to be delivered to the French navy in September 2007.
