Nobody Hides From These Sensors
Edited by Robert H. Williams
Insurgents beware. A new, compact, multiple sensor system is able to identify targets partially hidden in camouflage or vegetation. The Lockheed Martin sensor package relies on a long-range variant of its LADAR (laser detection and ranging) technology, a television camera and forward-looking infrared.
The three-dimensional system can be operated in a high-resolution mapping mode, has a range of 20 kilometers.
Contained in a 15-inch turret, the advanced sensors can be placed on either manned or unmanned aerial platforms. The company said the system could have applications in disaster recovery and homeland security.
