Tough, Light Fiber Protecting Soldiers
Edited by Robert H. Williams
Army truckers will be benefiting from an armor technology that was developed by DSM Dyneema, of Heerlen, The Netherlands. The company has teamed with Stewart & Stevenson to protect cab occupants of the Army's Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles from small arms, mines, improvised explosive devices and shrapnel.
The armor, which can be molded, is a polyethylene-based material that not only resists cutting, abrasion and penetration, but is considerable lighter than metal armor plating, said a spokesman.
