Armored
Bus Ready for Market
An Israeli company with the cooperation of the Ministry of Defense there has developed 53-passenger armored bus. The vehicle is impervious to 7.62 mm armor piercing bullets, grenades and most improvised explosive devices, say officials. The manufacturer, Merkavim, is co-owned by Volvo Bus Corporation.
From the outside, it is indistinguishable from a tour bus. The Mars Defender Armored Bus also features a stainless steel chassis, armored glass, two rear axles and three escape hatches.
Sales of the $400,000 vehicles are slated to begin this year.
