Laptop Converter for the Troops
Edited by Robert H. Williams
Need to run a laptop, cell or satellite telephone or global positioning system from a military vehicle? No problem, if you have a 24-volt to 12-volt converter. A British firm — AB Connectors Ltd. — in conjunction with Military Battery Systems Inc., in the United States, is offering a new product: the SBORD power converter that provides 70 watts of fuse protected power for 12 volt devices.
The converter “eliminates the common practice of tapping 12-volt power by splicing into the cables of one of the vehicles batteries, a situation that can lead to battery pack imbalance, reduced battery life and electrical shorts in the vehicle wiring,” notes a company spokesman.
