Protective Hoods Aid Fire Victims
Edited by Robert H. Williams
An increasing number of municipal fire departments around the country are acquiring smoke escape hoods that are made by Draeger Safety Inc. of Pittsburgh, Pa. The devices, which feature a large eyepiece and filter for breathing, are designed for victims in burning buildings.
They permit fire fighters to assist these persons without having to share air from their own breathing equipment. The hoods are in wide use in Europe, says a company spokesman.
