Diagnostic Technology Applied to Marine vehicles

Edited by Robert H. Williams

DiagnosticTechState of the art automotive diagnostic systems are being adapted by Delphi engineers, of Troy, Mich., for the Marine Corps’ light armored vehicles (LAVs). This technology is commonplace in new cars, but no so for combat vehicles.

Testing of this multi-faceted system, which relies on a satellite interface, will continue through the balance of this year. Depending on the outcome, the Marine Corps may equip the entire fleet of 700 LAVs with this technology.

“We are adapting and modifying what we know about integrated electronic systems in the automotive industry in order to advance the LAV for the military. We are introducing leading edge technology into a rigorous military environment, a world of highly advanced weapon systems with the need for integration and global communications,” says Delphi’s Ben Johnson.
