Toxic Gas Monitor Fits in Pocket
edited by Robert H. Williams
A
Pennsylvania-based company has developed an 8.6 ounce device that
detects poisonous or explosive gasses inside mines and other enclosed
areas. The M40(bullet)M, which is being produced by Industrial Scientific
Corp., alerts users to hazardous levels of methane, carbon monoxide,
oxygen and hydrogen sulfide.
A company official pointed out that the multi-gas monitor features
a liquid crystal display for real-time gas readings. It has an amber
backlight for use in low light conditions. The monitor is resistant
to radio frequency and electromagnetic interference.
Good for up to 18 hours of continuous operation, the monitor alerts
users to dangerously high gas concentrations by audio and visual
signals and a built-in vibrating alarm in high-noise situations.
