Commercial Transport Warning System Unveiled

An aircraft missile warning system that relies on infrared “superlattice” detector technology is being outfitted by EADS Defence Electronics, of Ulm, Germany, for the A400M European transport aircraft.

A key component is MIRAS, or multi-color infrared alerting sensor, that originally was designed for wide body aircraft, but will also be offered to other platforms including high performance jet interceptors. Other system elements are a defensive aids computer and radar-warning receiver.
