FBI Garners Command Center on Wheels
edited by Robert H. Williams
The
FBI has received a 34-foot long, stainless steel, expandable command
vehicle that was used first at President Bush’s January inauguration.
Built by Pierce Manufacturing Inc. of Appleton, Wis., the diesel-powered
mobile command post may see duty in terrorist incidents, hostage
situations and natural disasters.
During the presidential inauguration, onboard communications systems
kept agents in contact with 40 police departments and five nearby
jurisdictions in the Washington, D.C., area. The diesel-powered
behemoth has three body slideouts and two side awnings. Inside are
the command center, conference area and galley. It is equipped with
multiple landlines, cellular and satellite telephone systems, cameras,
flat panel monitors, DVD/VHS combo decks, color printers and high-tech
surveillance gear.
