Deep Diver Suits Unveiled

edited by Robert H. Williams

Offshore divers who require additional protection at underwater construction sites will be the target market for the Hardsuit 1200 deep atmospheric diving systems, designed by Oceanworks International of Vancouver, British Columbia, and Houston, Tex. The suits are now in operation at Phoenix International’s Morgan City, La., three-acre waterfront site.

The suits, with 360-degree joint rotation, are designed for underwater construction, inspection and general sub-sea actuation and intervention support. Operators are able to use a “comprehensive range of tools, tooling systems and sensors,” noted a company spokesman.

While Phoenix International specializes in underwater ship repairs, sub-sea surveys, deep ocean search/recovery, submarine rescue and engineering, these deep dive systems would be used primarily to service the Gulf of Mexico energy industry, the official explained.
