Army Provides ‘Chariots’ To Park Rangers
edited by Robert H. Williams
Park rangers of the Huron-Clinton Park Authority at Kensington Metropark, in
Milford, Mich., have received two American Chariot personal transport vehicles
from the Army’s National Automotive Center, in Warren, Mich.
The electric-powered vehicles are part of the soldier mobility program that
“tests vehicles in military and commercial scenarios before providing
them to soldiers in the field,” said an official.
The three-wheeled transports have a top speed of 20 miles per hour and a range
of 15 miles. They can carry up to 350 pounds.
The Metropark rangers will use their personal transport vehicles to patrol
bicycle paths, parking lots and picnic areas. Feedback from the rangers, the
official pointed out, will contribute to the creation of a military hybrid fuel
vehicle that American Chariot is developing.
