New Sensor Protects Building Walls and Roofs
edited by Robert H. Williams
The E3i sensor, an interior microphonic cable sensor, has been designed to detect attempts to penetrate the walls and roofs of buildings. A refinement of technology developed by Senstar-Stellar of Fremont, Calif., the sensor cable when mounted to the interior surface of structures detects attempts by intruders to cut, smash, crush or saw through an exterior surface, a spokesman said.
The device was adapted from strain-sensitive “microphonic cable technology that is used on outdoor perimeter fencing to the specialized requirements of detecting impacts to metal, wood, or masonry materials,” he added.
