Fast Water Craft Targets Security Operations
edited by Robert H. Williams
A military patrol catamaran known as "SeaCoaster" was unveiled by American Marine Holdings, of Sarasota, Fla., for the Office of Naval Research. A 102-foot prototype is expected to race across the water at almost 60 knots.
Underpinning the craft is an advanced high-speed dual hull that provides lift and reduces frictional resistance, said a company spokesman.
When testing of the SeaCoaster is completed, versions ranging from 65 to 380 feet would be offered for a variety of military and commercial functions, including fast ferry and crew supply.
Also participating in the program are Austal USA and Air Ride Inc.
