Desperadoes beware. The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency is sponsoring development of a moving vehicle combined technology demonstrator that detects land mines and tunnels.
Raytheon Co. of El Segundo, Calif., is assembling the system, which features a high sensitivity laser radar vibration sensor, a proprietary morphable networked micro-architecture processor, and algorithms that have been tailor made for the vibrometer that adjusts for vehicle, structural and acoustic movement.
“This will provide the first capability of real-time acoustic and seismic detection on a mobile platform, with significant improvement in detection and stand-off range,” a company spokesman says.
