Family of Small, Economical Thermal Cameras Introduced

FLIR Systems Inc. of Portland, Ore., is producing a family of affordable handheld cameras — called the Tau family — which the company claims are the “smallest, lightest, lowest power, uncooled longwave thermal” devices in their class.

Among their proposed applications are firefighter imaging, unmanned vehicle systems and thermal weapon sights. Tau comprises three different camera configurations and seven lens choices.
