Active and reserve Marine Corps units are protecting heavy equipment and hardware from the ravages of rain, salt spray, sand, sun and other environmental hazards. The troops are using a breathable, shrinkable fabric that is lightweight and reusable.
The product is made by Transhield Inc. of Elkhart, Ind. According to the company, the fabric, which wards off vapor induced corrosion, comes with custom fitted covers that minimizes taping, tucking and folding as compared to other forms of packaging and covering.
“The cover material is breathable and the special coating significantly reduces moisture and eliminates hardware corrosion while covered. The long-term preservation of military hardware with custom-fit covers is also an effective alternative to building large storage structures,” says a spokesman.
