A coalition of military experts from the Army Forces Command, program executive officer for simulation, training and instrumentation and Tank Automotive, Research Development and Engineering Center has devised a trainer for troops to rehearse emergency exists from heavily armored tactical vehicles.
They are getting a manufacturing assist from Red River Army Depot. The simulator, called HEAT, for humvee egress assistance trainer, prepares soldiers to leave the heavy vehicles in rollover situations.
The 13,200-pound trainer, which consists of cabs mounted to an engineered design frame, enables occupants to open safety restraints and leave the vehicle through doors or the gunner’s hatch in multiple rotated positions.
The depot is currently fabricating 53 of the HEAT simulators.
