Emergency Escape WindowsTroops riding in up-armored high mobility multipurpose wheeled vehicles (humvees) and comparable trucks could have the option of exiting rapidly via emergency escape windows. The kits, which rely on existing window designs, were developed by BAE Systems of Minneapolis, Minn.

The company says the kits can be installed in the field in about an hour. As for emergency removal, a soldier or Marine can disengage the windows in less than five seconds.“In the event of a vehicle emergency, a crew member simply pulls out the locking pins, turns the two latches and pushes the window out which permits the crew to quickly climb out of the vehicle,” says a spokesman.
