A team from Warner-Robbins Air Logistics Center, Ga., has provided an improved armor solution for special operations MH-53 Pave Low helicopter crews in Iraq.
When existing ballistic blankets proved unable to stop bullets from penetrating the crew compartment, members of the 580th Aircraft Sustainment Group went to work. They came up with a hard shell system that weighs slightly more than the armor blankets.
An official says from start to finish, the project took eight months to reach fruition.
