 Smart Cable Thwarts Missile Attacks

2,006

Edited by Robert H. Williams

SmartCableAn Air Force team has developed and fielded an upgrade for transport aircraft missile warning systems. Called the smart cable, the unit has been installed on 400 coalition aircraft, according to officials.

It was developed by members from the aeronautical systems center at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, in response to two attacks by man-portable missiles in late December, 2003, and early January, 2004, near Baghdad.

The rapid development and fielding of the smart cable has eliminated further successful attacks.
