French Seek More Realistic Troop Training

edited by Robert H. Williams

The French Army has agreed to purchase 4,300 laser-firing simulators, harness-worn sensors and head units for infantry training. The laser transmitters will be used on assault and sniper rifles and related weapons.

RUAG Electronics’ simulation and training division and GAVAP, a French partner, are producing the systems. A spokesman for the Swiss firm says the French military will begin testing the systems this year, adding that the 17 million-euro deal will culminate in 2006 when the laser simulators and sensors will be delivered in batches.
