An alternate helmet-mounted display for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter that provides electro optics, protection, and life support is being designed by BAE Systems, Rochester, United Kingdom, for Lockheed Martin. Officials said the system is comparable to the Eurofighter Typhoon binocular helmet that is said to be nearing fruition. Another helmet for the F-35 already was developed by the Boeing Co.

The head tracker, according to BAE, is a high-speed, high-accuracy, low latency optical system. It meshes with F-35 sensors and is compatible with helmet-mounted, high-resolution night-vision cameras. It also possesses a respirator for protection of nuclear, biological, and chemical agents.
