A
recently introduced lightweight, broadband, secure satellite communications
terminal, which fits in two travel bags, is compact enough to be
transported in overhead airliner bins.
Set-up of the terminal—that can send a receive data at rates
ranging from 64 kbps to 9.1 mbps—can be accomplished in less
than 15 minutes and advanced software permits operation by soldiers
or civilians with no satellite communications background.
The Auto-Explorer, developed by Globecomm Systems Inc. of Hauppage,
N.Y., was designed with multiple uses in mind, including tactical
support, peacekeeping, global newsgathering and distance learning.
