Selected U.S. Army and Marine Corps units are acquiring an advanced, global
positioning satellite-enabled video surveillance system that can seamlessly
detect and track intruders, vehicles or vessels at distances in excess of 700
meters.
Targets are transmitted to responders within a range of two kilometers.
A spokesman for Guardian Solutions said the new ThreatSTALKER system, which
is wireless and fully automated, is able to operate in “grasslands, woods,
along coastlines and in urban environments.”
The system is composed of one to six rugged tripods that are equipped with
a pan-tilt zoom camera, processor, transceiver, antenna, power and battery back-up
that link to a laptop computer. Optional devices include infrared illuminators
and cameras, and building mounts.
The official said the lightweight system can be up and running within 30 minutes.
A single tripod configuration, he adds, retails for $23,000.
