Oshkosh Defense, a division of Oshkosh Corp. in Oshkosh, Wis., is constructing 1,500 reducible-height armor kits for the Marine Corps’ all-terrain medium tactical vehicle replacement fleet. Under the $180 million deal, the company will provide kits that will permit the transporting of MTVRs at a reduced height of 8 feet, 2 inches, which will allow them to be placed on the decks of previously inaccessible decks of preposition ships.
The armored kits have been geared for use on all variants of the MTVRs: tractors, wreckers, dump trucks and cargo trucks.
Currently, there are more than 10,000 MTVRs in use by the Marine Corps and Navy Seabees.
