A Noblesville, Ind., company has developed a tough, resilient composite material that is expected to find uses in safety equipment, sporting goods and gear for the military, including high impact, light-weight helmets.
The company, IDI Composites International, is marketing the material for a range of applications that include aerospace and automotive products.
Chemicals can be added to heighten fire resistance, the company says. The material is moldable, which means numerous items can be quickly produced, including helmets for firefighters and linters for pick-up truck beds.
